1. Dhammikarama Burmese Temple: One of the Most Beautiful Temples in Penang<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Dhammikarama Burmese Temple<\/a> was the first Burmese Buddhist temple built in Malaysia. It dates back to 1805 and is one of the most important Buddhist temples on the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The temple sits in Pulau Tikus, just across the road from Wat Chayamangkalaram. During Wesak Day, the whole area becomes lively with lights, stalls, and people moving between both temples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We loved the bright gold pagoda and the peaceful prayer halls inside. There are statues, colourful carvings, and a lovely garden area that feels calm even when the temple is busy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the highlights is the tall standing Buddha and the detailed Burmese-style architecture. It looks completely different from the Chinese temples around Penang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We were honestly a little nervous before going in, but the temple itself is beautiful and peaceful. There is incense hanging in the air, red lanterns above the courtyard, and lovely old wooden details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The temple also has a smaller snake exhibition area and a quiet garden behind the main hall. If you are looking for activities in Penang that feel a little different, this is definitely one of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Try visiting earlier in the day when it is less crowded and cooler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Built by Penang’s Hainanese community, this temple sits on Muntri Street in Georgetown. It is dedicated to Mazu, the Chinese sea goddess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The temple has bright red pillars, traditional lanterns, and beautiful views over the surrounding neighbourhood. It feels quiet and peaceful, especially compared to the busier temples in town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We visited in the late afternoon and loved how calm it was. There were only a few people around, and we had plenty of time to admire the carvings and decorations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The temple was founded in 1890 and sits on a hillside in Air Itam. You can see parts of it from far away, especially the giant statue of Kuan Yin that towers above the complex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is so much to explore here. There are prayer halls, gardens, pagodas, ponds, and long staircases lined with colourful lanterns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our favourite part was the Pagoda of Ten Thousand Buddhas. It combines Chinese, Thai, and Burmese architecture, which makes it look completely unique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During Wesak Day, Kek Lok Si becomes even more beautiful. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thousands of lights and lanterns fill the temple grounds after sunset. If you only have time to visit one place, this is probably the one we would choose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wesak Day is one of the best times to explore the many temples in Penang. The island has everything from giant hilltop temples to quiet old buildings hidden along heritage streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some places are grand and famous, like Kek Lok Si. Others are smaller and easier to miss, like Han Jiang Ancestral Temple or Hainan Thean Hou Temple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The best part is that many of them are close to one another. In a single day, we managed to visit several places, enjoy the atmosphere, and still have time for a bowl of Penang laksa in between.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
